Hogwarts; Outside A Good Day for a Fly

The weather is crisp, sunny and with a wonderful wind that tempts flyers to enjoy it. Quidditch season will be starting soon and that means practices, try outs and all the business of making sure that the proper House team wins.

In Will's case that means he's working to pull together a new team and getting them ready as soon as possible. The two Theos have definite possibilities but he wants to put them to the best use possible.

Today he hasn't reserved the field but he's honestly considering it because it seems like you can't fly in Hogwarts without half the school coming to watch or show off.

He'll be in the air, around the stands and trying to make sense of all the flyers, because if other Houses' teams are going to be practicing around him, its not their fault if he learns things.

Sitting in the stands is Alec who's watching all the madness. His team's not out there yet. He wanted a chance to watch the competition before getting his own players in order.

Paper and quill out he's making notes.

It's not cheating.

It's strategics.

At one point when he flies by the stands, Will happens to lose control of a bludger that might scatter Alec's papers,

"Watch your head!"

Yelping, Alec ducks, snatching at his papers, clutching them tightly. Only one or two flutter free. He glares up at the other captain. "Watch your bludger you bat bogey bean brain!"

Will easily hits the bludger back into the midst of the other flyers and gives Alec an innocent smile,

"It got away from me. Working on some homework?"

"A bludger get away from you? The great beater of Gryffindor? Are you getting sick? Maybe you should go to the infirmary," he says, ignoring the question.

"I have to keep my eyes on all these new players who might not know what they're doing,"

Will flies closer to hover over Alec and leans over his broom to see if he can read anything.

It's written in Alec's own personal chicken scratch with bad spelling, backwards letters and wrong spaced words. If he can cypher that then he's a smart man more suited to other things than playing with bludgers. But there are what might be notes on various people flying out there.

"If you can't keep an eye on your bludger and your players, then you do have problems."

"Maybe I'm just curious about why a fellow captain is doing homework out here. You wouldn't want to lose anything to a bad wind gust,"

He's just going to ignore what Alec said and seeing the player's names told him that Alec was doing what he figured.

"So you hit the bludger at me deliberately?" he asks, still avoiding the question. He's a bad liar so he lies by avoiding lying.

"No, it just veered towards you and the wind caught it,"

Which is partly true, he was aiming on just making Alec jump and drop his papers and he gave him a warning so it worked out well,

"It didn't hit you and I let you know it was coming your way."

"I still can't believe you let it fly free from you." He says carefully putting his papers in order and stuffing them in his rather tattered bag.

The he goes on to say, "It's a bit of a mess out there, isn't it? Three collisions already. I'm sure if professor Delvar was here, he'd be rolling around in his grave at the poor flyers."

"That's because they're not paying attention and honestly there are just too many of them out here. You two, watch out! If you hit the goal posts, you'll get more hurt than them!"

Will's still hovering on his broom and keeping one eye on the flyers because this is a mess and he's trying to keep control but its a glorious day for flying.

"If they're not going to pay attention then they're not going to get on the team. Any team." There's a snort.

"Of course not, but they'll still end up hurt,"

And then people will yell at Will as he's one of the older flyers out here.

Alec nods in agreement and gazes out at the field. "Where is professor Delvar? He's usually around when there's this many fliers buzzing about."

He has sympathy for Will, knowing what will happen. That's what professors are for, not seventh years.

"I don't know. If he's here, I haven't seen him or any other professors just too many students,"

All he wanted to do was enjoy the nice flying weather and a get a sense for tryouts but the sky filled up.

"His hair's redder than yours, easy to spot. Are you still trying to hold your tryouts in this mess?"

"No, when I do those, I'm reserving the field,"

He knows enough to manage that. This is just a good flying day so he wanted to see how people fly when they don't realize he's watching or they're trying out.

"I've got it next week. I only need a new keeper and a chaser. Most of the rest of the team is staying on from last year."

"I'm mainly looking for another Chaser and probably Keeper at this point,"

The two Theos will do well if he can figure out which position suits which one.

"So we're looking for the same thing. Sometimes I wonder if it would be a good or bad thing if we could look outside our own houses for players." He's seen one or two players he'd like on his team. Not that his team isn't top notch, but he'd rather have some other players on his team than the other houses having them.

"That would make try outs more exciting."

"Wouldn't it? I mean it would be pure insanity." He kinda likes that idea.

"Yes, it'd be fun to see just once."

"I wonder if we could talk the professors into that." He thinks about it for a moment and then laughs with a shake of his head.
