The Three Broomsticks; Late Night

Jo is Bored. Adulthood is sometimes Boring. 



Fail, Adulthood, Fail. And the empty bar. 
Where she "has to stay" for the time being.






To counteract this, Jo is sitting on one end of the bar reading her mail.  Indian style. Wearing a cowboy hat only those who went to school with her would remember from their fourth year.

Leah chuckles, settling back now with a Correct-a-quill working on the first essay. Her left eye keeps pointing in that direction, but her right looks at Jo.

"It's brilliant, though. This year's going to be much easier than the last - it's only the first years I have to make a suitably scary impression on."

"Can you sit on your desk?" Jo gestured with her mail at the bar she was sitting on. "How many classes of first years do you have this time?"

"Four," Leah replies brightly. "Like last year I've got to beat the bored out of the Gryffindors, the scared out of the Hufflepuffs, the smartarsedness out of the Ravenclaws and just beat the snot out of the Slytherins. Gimme a month."

Jo laughed. "Awww. But what will you do with the whole rest of the year?"

"I'm going to actually tech 'em history for the rest of the year," Leah says.

"Oh right, yeah, you don't know my special exciting history teaching method. Did you know there're parts of Magical History that don't involve Goblin Rebellions?"

Jo gaped suddenly, letting a scroll fall.
Copper eyes so bright with held-in laughter.


"Oh. My. God. Really? How did other things ever happen?"

[trickswithsticks]

"I know!"

Of course, Jo has sat through more than one instance of Leah enthusing about the history of a spell, or why the American Charms are more similar to Asian than Eueropean techniques, or countless other things that were more interesting to Sokka than to her.

"And so much of it took place right in that castle. So my first years, once we're used to each other? Field trips. Without leaving school grounds."

It helps that Jo loved History of Magic even with The Stupidest Never Ending Rebellion. But then she liked most of school altogether. It was one of those incongruous things with everything else she did.




"I'm almost jealous of Twelve-year-olds, Lee. I may need to lay down and have the nurse check me for sanity spots."

Leah laughs at her. "Sorry, JB. Only kids get to go on my magical history tours.

"Remember that time we spent the night by Dumbledore's Grave and got points deducted for being disrespectful? Third year homework in November."

Jo signed with half-real and half-trite depression as though the whole world could never understand her childhood emo ways.

"You know they probably never did believe it was all about paying respects to the greatest man in all our text books."

"It was you and me," Leah points out. "I don't think anyone thought we were about paying respects to anyone."

Jo snorted, smiling evilly.

"That, too."

[trickswithsticks]

"Which reminds me," Leah says. "Hogsmeade weekends. For one weekend a month, I need you to speak my name in hushed tones of awe."

Reputation, baby.

"I promise to tell them you are the most evil person I've ever heard of." Beeeaaattt. "And that you don't steal down to my pub in the middle of the night to get toasty most weeks."

"It is not my fault the fire in my office is stuck on cold flame," Leah complains. "I've tried everything, but I just need to let the magic calm down before I reset it.

"Anyone would think you didn't love me being here."

[veneficusvenato]

"I would kill you if you didn't come by," said with such solemnity. "Who ever thought when we were younger that the Broomstick every got all quiet in the middle of the week nights sometime."

[trickswithsticks]

"Not me," Leah said brightly. "I used to thinkk this place was filled with exciting intoxicated adults long into the night.

"...oh, and I'm totally buying you a flying billiards table. There's no room in my office for one."

Jo smiled, pleased with this idea. "We should get those balls that shift colors every time they hit anything, too."

Leah's colour vision isn't what it was, but she grins anyway. "Weren't thinking of getting anything else."

"Because you are the queen of all things awesome, obviously," Jo laughed.

[trickswithsticks]

"I am, and those students better pppreciate it," Leah says firmly.

"I'm so glad you're here, JB."

Jo grinned. "Me, too."


It really was mostly true. Mostly.

But she was glad to have Leah and Sokka back near by.
