Hogwarts: Covered Bridge, early evening

It's after dinner and studying that Aloysius Crumrin (7th year, Slytherin) takes himself outside to the Covered Bridge for a smoke and perhaps a bit of woolgathering, though he'd never admit it. There is drizzle in the air that promises a wet evening but he is enjoying it as it reminds him of his home in California.

Company wouldn't be a bad thing really, a fact he might even admit to.

"Boring so far. Most kids just run the other way whenever I show up so I haven't had to really do anything. I don't even know if they were doing anything wrong in the first place."

He could take offense to it but it cuts down on the useless interruptions.

"At least they're making your job easier,"

Will's guessing they ran because Aloysius always looks like he wants an excuse to be angry.

"That's true...though a bit boring," he replies with a sigh. Catching a chill in the air he reaches into his clock and pulls out a flask, offering it first to Will. "Firewhiskey?" Idly he wonders if the Gryffindor will trust a drink from a Slytherin.

He considers the flask and takes a quick sip, the burn of the whiskey is nice,

"Thanks. I'm sure things will get less boring as the year goes on."

He ofers another wry grin. "I am sure. How are you settling in this year?"

"No complaints, yourself?"

He hands back the flask with a nod. There's trouble at home and with the Order but he won't be sharing that with Aloysius.

Aloysius accepts the flask and takes his own sip not bothering to wipe the top of the flask off as some of his House might.

"Well enough though Professor Aquam's teaching style continues to allude me."

"I think he works best if you don't look for too much logic."

"You might have something there," Aloysius replies pocketing the flask. "I suppose that fits with the subject matter."

"I haven't failed yet,"

Potions is one of those subjects he does struggle with at times but he likes Professor Aquam.

"Neither have I but not for want of the Professor's efforts. Not including ingredients is a pretty sneaky move I must say. Still it has taught us to think outside the box as it were."

"True, but it works and most people wouldn't think of that approach for teaching either."

"At least he hasn't substituted ingredients. Well not yet anyway."

"I wouldn't put it past him to put out two very similar ingredients and see who catches the wrong one."

"Now there's an idea and something to watch out for. Are you sure you're a Gryffindor? That's a pretty sneaky mind you have there." It's meant as teasing and Aloysius hopes it's accepted as such. His face doesn't show it but he hadn't meant to say that last bit out loud.

Will shrugs and smiles, it doesn't quite reach his eyes,

"I've had some times when I need to be sneaky myself. I'd rather not be."

Aloysius gives Will an appraising look before replying, "I shall keep that in mind. It might surprise you to find I prefer the direct approach myself though it rarely seems to serve."

"We all do what we need to when we need to."

"Very true," Aloysius replies as a gust of wind blows rain down the neck of his cloak. He shivers before saying, "And I think I've had enough of this rain, I'm heading inside. I leave the bridge in your more than capable hands young Scarlett."
