Hogwarts: Covered Bridge, early evening

It's after dinner and studying that Aloysius Crumrin (7th year, Slytherin) takes himself outside to the Covered Bridge for a smoke and perhaps a bit of woolgathering, though he'd never admit it. There is drizzle in the air that promises a wet evening but he is enjoying it as it reminds him of his home in California.

Company wouldn't be a bad thing really, a fact he might even admit to.

"It would be good practice," Aloysius agrees. "Too bad we couldn't just talk to them and come to an agreement. But they are pixies."

"Yeah," Dinah agrees wholeheartedly.

She's quiet for a second, letting the conversation settle, then: "I'm going to need you to watch the fort next week. I'm leaving the castle for a few days."

"Shouldn't be a problem. I hope everything is okay?" he asks honestly. There are fun among the student body in the school he honestly cares about and among those few, Dinah is near the top.

The impulse, with a question like that would be to say yes, everything's fine, but since that would be a lie, she just smiles wryly.

"A funeral. Family friend."

"Of course. Forgive me for prying," he answers, looking down. Not wanting to talk about family is something he understands all to well though likely Dinah's reasons are very different.

"I assume you will be leaving instructions with your prefects? Do you have a second in case something disastrous occurs?"

"You weren't prying."

It's just painful.

"And no. No I don't. Nothing disasterous is going to happen. But the prefects know what they're doing."

"Of course nothing will happen," Aloysius replies as the cold wind picks up. He reaches into his cloak and pulls out a small flask. "Firewhiskey for the chill?"

Cigarettes and alcohol on school grounds? One could also think Aloysius is a bad boy except he never smokes more than one a day and drinks even less.

"Merlin's beard, Aloysius," Dinah says. "How you made prefects I'll never know."

She says it fondly, mocking a real admonishment, and accepts the flask, because they're legal adults and they can drink what they like.

He grins in reply. "Discretion, moderation and forethought. Speaking of, if something were to happen would you opposed to my deputizing your boy Scarlett? He seems to have a decent enough head on his shoulders...for being a scrapper that is."

Dinah considers this, and grins. "If you can tear him away from Quidditch. He'll make a great Head Girl."

"Interesting. See I would have chosen velvet to go with his complexion but he's in your House." A breeze catches them and blows some rain their way.

"I think perhaps it is time to go inside. These California bones weren't made for your Scottish Autumns. I know it is unlikely but I hope your trip finds you some pleasure."
