[Closed] Snitch-Off Round Two (for [personal profile] brooklynishere)

[Continued from here]

It's been a strangely good day. History of Magic, Charms and Care of Magical Creatures, which is never anything but Ezra's favourite. No detention, no one digging at him more than usual, and the promise of flying after the school day. It's clearly got nothing to do with the fact he might be flying with someone he defintely isn't ever going to be friends with.

But it might help that having to share a school with Conlon might be a little less utterly tortuous from now on.

Ezra's pretty pleased with his broom - it's not top of the line in any way, but the small allowance his Local Authority pay him for educational expenses (and god knows where the muggle council think their money is going, but the exchange rate is apparently not terrible) has stretched to a second hand Cleansweep, and while charms isn't his strongest subject, he put effort into learning the right ones to keep it flying and responsive, and kept it well serviced.

He has to give his housemates the slip, though - doesn't want anyone making comments about him never making the Quidditch team, so he's a bit late hurrying out to the the pitch.

It's a very long two weeks, hush

It's time again for a small crowd to gather in the Great Hall of Hogwarts before venturing out to stumble into blind corridors, bang toes on chests in poorly lit storerooms and, with luck, avoid getting split up so that small groups trickle back over all the hours that remain until curfew.

[OOC: This is me being bad a scheduling. Ta da!]

Working for what you want..

So it's a few hours after Sunday lunch and Tyler's found himself a good perch in the Great Hall to sit down and read. And For once the nerdy Marlocke isn't reading a book, but a sports broom catalogue.

Right now, he's just looking at repair and replacement parts...

Around the Grounds of Hogwarts (Hogsmeade Weekend)

Not everyone is off campus today partaking in one of the many Hogsmeade Weekends this first semester has to offer. Which means that though the school is much quieter this afternoon, it is far from empty. The halls still ring with the pitter-pat of the youngest students not yet old enough to make the trek. The library and House Common Rooms are filled by the shushing of upperclassmen old enough to go, but too bogged down by studies to even consider escaping the castle.

And then there's the Brothers Hamato, living proof that it doesn't matter how old you are, or how up to date you are with your assignments, if you don't have a signed permission slip...you don't leave the grounds.

"Where's Raph again?"

"The Pitch. He's uh...getting some extra practice in."

"And Don?"

"Tutoring. I sent a couple of kids from Hufflepuff his way."

"And what about you Mike? What're you doing with your afternoon off. Please tell me you have something else to do aside from babysitting me."

"Who's babysitting? I'm just taking a leisurely jog with my big brother. Is that so wrong?"

"No, not wrong, just...nevermind."

"If I'm going too fast for you, let me know. I can slow down."

"..."

The smaller teen grins.

"You wish."

[Catch them anywhere around the grounds.]

Wandering about the shop.

Inara is doing her thing in the shop - inside the front window display to be precise, struggling with a bookshelf that is meant to be showing off all of the new stock that's been coming in the past couple of weeks.

Her skirts are long enough that nobody passing by is getting a show, but if they stand there for a while they may actually get to spot Inara huffing at the shelving units and swiping her hair out of her face - an uncharacteristic show of frustration for her.

[ooc: could still be played in Hogsmeade weekend if wanted for anyone.]

Streets of Hogsmeade (Hogsmeade Weekend)

Will is slightly dressed up for this Hogsmeade weekend in a green sweater that his mother gave him for his birthday. It brings out his eyes and he decided it was the dressiest casual thing he had to wear, his pants are pressed and he's combed his hair.

He's in the general vicinity of the White Lotus but trying to seem like he's not. Maybe he should have said that he'd meet Barbara in the Great Hall but then it would be more formal and neither of them want that.

He keeps walking by the flower shop and watching the couples who are holding each other hands. It starts to rain and he pulls up his hood and tucks under the eave of a shop where he looks at the door of the Three Broomsticks to see who else is around.

(OOC: This is hopefully going to end up as his date with [livejournal.com profile] twiceahero but this is open for anyone who wants to talk to him.)

The Three Broomsticks [Hogsmeade Weekend!]

The High Road is full of kids. The door is cracked open.

Which means the fireplaces are roaring higher.

But Jo likes the cold wind. Today.

Doors open, come on in.

Hallowe'en!

Congratulations! You've made it halfway through the winter term, and someone is determined that you will enjoy this evening. The smells of the feast started permeating the classrooms about mid afternoon, and by the time classes are let out for the day, the corridor are resplendant in pumpkins and candles.

The Great Hall, is the focus of the celebrations, with animated carved pumpkins on every table, more candles than there've been since the Sorting Ceremony and everyone somehow finding that they do in fact have better robes than the ones they usually wear.

It's the Annual Hogwarts Hallowe'en feast: Tuck in!

[OOC: Party thread! Tag into your table, tag another location. Thread hop. Come back here weeks later for more threads. Meet people you haven't threaded with before. Party!

(Alumni and guests also welcome)]

[Back posted to the morning after Joberknoll Meeting 1

"So, how've you been?"

"Oh, you know. Same as always."]

Hogwarts Exploration

Kirika arrives earlier than the time printed on the reminder notes. She's kind of in charge and it ruins things if you swoop in late for most people.

And so, armed with several different pieces of paper, she waits.

OOC: Please see the planning post for coordination.

Around the Great Hall; Nighttime

The week has been busy with papers coming due, the Quidditch season starting to get into full swing and the first hints of Winter in the air. Will's at the Gryffindor table with a piece of paper where he's trying to write down all the things he has to do before the end of the week.

Every time he looks down, he remembers something new and he's not ready to go up to the common room yet because he knows someone will ask him about something on the list.

At least down here, it's busy enough that he can enjoy his dinner and think in relative peace. Feel free to bother him as he'd love a distraction from the mounting list of things to do.

(OOC: Tag Will or set up a thread with one of yours somewhere about the Great Hall.)

The Three Broomsticks: Order of the Joberknoll

[ OOC Post Details Here ]

The Three Broomsticks has closed every Thursday night since before the end of the last war. Each of the new owners has followed suit when they picked up the place. The second one said it had to do with luck and honors. And Jo Harvelle, who snuck into the place more times than any could count a decade ago, seems to be following in all their stead with an easy, unruffable grace.

The Closed sign hangs carelessly askew, like normal, and the windows are dark.

(And it will remain that way unless you have an invitation of some kind.)

"And do not, under any circumstances, let go of your brothers."
It was the last thing she'd said, the very last time he'd seen her alive. It was easy to keep up on his promise when they were at Xavier's, less so to the point of impossibility at Arkham. Here at Hogwarts though, he was trying his damnedest to comply with Shen's last wishes.

Every morning he woke at dawn to meet Leonardo for a jog around the grounds, then they would eat breakfast together. After breakfast he'd meet up with Donatello for 6th Year Charms, and following that either lunch or the library. The evenings found Mike either seated at the Gryffindor table with Raph, or just across the way at the Hufflepuff table. Then they would spend the rest of the night goofing off and avoiding homework until either lights out were called, or he was asked to leave the Gryffindor common room.

But right now? In the sweet spot just post lunch and before dinner? That's his time. And today he's utilizing that time to sit on the steps outside the front door and sketch the surrounding grounds.

It was amazing what you could buy, borrow, or snag from people at this school. Nearly everything was for sale or lease for the right price. Through a series of favors and promises Mike had managed to scrape together a semi-decent art kit. Today was the day he was going to try out the charcoals he'd gotten in a trade from a really cute girl in Ravenclaw.

Kate Kane, Library, Mid-day

[The night before.]

Kate is sitting in the library, actually reading a book this time. It's a book on charms and as she reads she plays with a paper turtle.

Minimalist post welcomes visitors.

(no subject)

Since having found out there's going to be an explorer's club as well as some help regarding his charms work in the future, Tyler's gotten to be pretty relaxed and happy. He's got a few friends, who for today, aren't with him in the hallway right now, as he heads up to the library to look up more things on charms to try and at least PASS that class.

That's why, jogging up the passage towards the library, he's woefully unprepared for the group of Slytherin fourth years, just coming OUT of the library. It's why he freezes upon seeing Charles Brigman, the fourth year he ended up getting caught for filching, just as the bigger, meaner boy catches sight of him, and then runs.

"buggerbuggerbugger."

He is no match for Brigman with a wand, and while he's Gryffindor, he is not a bloody minded fool.

"EAT SLUGS YOU LITTLE SQUIB!"

"BUGGER!"

He's not going to dodge the next blast, so there's a first year, running for all he's worth down the passageway.

Around school grounds, Sunday evening

Barbara has a chess board floating in front of her chair and her lips are pursed in concentration as she contemplates her next move. She looks completely engrossed in the game, oblivious to anyone who might be nearby. But looks can be deceiving.

"Queen's knight to C-4," she finally says, watching as the piece moves.

And then the board rotates 180 degrees and she's back to contemplating her next move. That knight s now in a very annoying position. She'll have to find some way to deal with that.

Uji, The White Lotus, Morning

"No, we will open Saiyuri," Uji says quietly but forcefully. If she had her way, they'd likely never open as she is such a perfectionist. "It is time. We can make adjustments once we see our customer's needs."

He throws the doors open and takes a deep lung full of air. Then with a flick of his wand, he flips the open sign and says to Saiyuri, "You had better get the pots on and get the ovens cooking."

[OOC: Yeah, The White Lotus is finally open! See here for a description of the place, it's staff and menu. Also see this backroom post for more info. Also, I'm about to go on a bike ride but will be back for fun.]

Sign-up Sheets

At lunch a few folded pieces of parchment are passed around. Mostly between the younger years, but some of the older transfer students too.

Sign-up sheets for the Hogwarts Exploration Club

Meeting times (roughly every two weeks), places (Great Hall until everyone knows somewhere more discrete), goals (not getting lost if you don't take the same path between classes, secret passages and lost passages later), official staff sponsor (Professor Ross) and what that brings with it (some history added on top of the mapping).

There is a handful of empty lines at the bottom for names and houses, always at least one more at the bottom.

After lunch the paper will fold itself up and fly off.

The Room of Requirement

After arriving on the Quidditch Pitch, Dinah doesn't waste any time heading to the seventh floor, still carrying the bundle she brought back with her.

When she told Leonardo he wanted the gym, she meant a very specific gym. Ever since her second year when her mother was in St, Mungo's for the first time and all she wanted was to be with her uncle Ted, she's taken to using the Room when it looks alomst exactly like Ted Grant's gym in the East End. Except that many years of use as a training spcace for her nad her friends have given it a specialist twist. The punching bags, for example, punch back.

Elbowing her way in with the bundle in her hands, she glances around the room for Leonardo. She's not late, but she wouldn't put it past him to be early.

[OOC: Plot locked to Leonardo]

The Quidditch Pitch, breakfast time

Dinah hasn't been at school the last few days. She cleared it with her teachers, of course, and the Head Boy and Headmaster seperately, then she vanished.

Now, at a time when most people should probably be in the Great Hall starting the day, her broomstick can be seen circling down to land on the pitch, a large rucksack on her back, and strapped to the underside of her broom, a long, thick bundle of somthing wrapped in thick cloth.

She's back.
