Hallowe'en!

Congratulations! You've made it halfway through the winter term, and someone is determined that you will enjoy this evening. The smells of the feast started permeating the classrooms about mid afternoon, and by the time classes are let out for the day, the corridor are resplendant in pumpkins and candles.

The Great Hall, is the focus of the celebrations, with animated carved pumpkins on every table, more candles than there've been since the Sorting Ceremony and everyone somehow finding that they do in fact have better robes than the ones they usually wear.

It's the Annual Hogwarts Hallowe'en feast: Tuck in!

The Gryffindor Table

Dinah has an accustomed spot on this table - right at the very end, nearest the staff table, facing the rest of the hall so she can watch goings-on at other tables.

The reason for her choice is very clear - so someone who brings her own chair and not sit on the long benche at the table - can still sit next to her best friend.

Also it gives Dinah the chance to see most of the hall and to be with as many of her friends as possible. It's been a tiring few weeks; she plans to enjoy tonight.

Not that far away from Dinah's popular clique of 7th and 6th years, Renee sits at the other end of the Quidditch players, wearing the exhausted grin of someone who has spent all afternoon practising and couldn't think of a better way to spend her time.

Will's directly across the table from Dinah and next to Babs, he needed this break.

He's managing to do what he needs to but he doesn't think he's ever been this busy at Hogwarts before.

He does and doesn't blame her at all, there's so much to do.

The two young Quidditch players further down the table are tugging in as if food was going out of fashion tomorrow.

"Ooooh, look, pumpkin with rice!" the blond Theo declares, shovelling some onto his table.

Sitting with the other first years, Tyler is digging right into the halloween feast, grinning happily. He's found the right place to sit, across from his friend Julie and lots of happy people all around to watch.

He hasn't been able to get to Dinah in the last few weeks...so it's probably well enough a time to approach her after he's gotten himself stuffed.

And Dinah shows no hurry to leave the table after eating, either. She stays in place, still washing down cake with butterbeer and chatting, after the Hall begins to empty.

When Tyler approaches, she grins at him. "Hi, Tyler."

"HI Dinah...uhm..Will said I should come talk to you, if I got a chance before he did about something." Even with all the good food and an evening of comfort packed into him..it's..

A little difficult, and fidgeting with the hem of his robes doesn't much help.

"...uhm..there's this one Slytherin fourth year...Charles Brigman who's been coming after me in the halls."

Staff Table

Before the starters are even served, there is at least one flask of firewhiskey being passed around the table.

Any accusations that Professor Ross is behind this shocked display or inappropriate behaviour in front of underaged wizards will be greeted with a cheeky grin and an acknowledgment.

Jo didn't so much get an invitation as much as told by her best'ies she was expected at the Hallowe'en Feast. There are several reasons this is awesome.

She gets her first Hogwart's Feast since graduating. She gets to toss confetti in Lee's hair. To run into all those Professor's that still remember some of her more glorious exploits.





(And if she happens to glance over Ozai or Steph or her Order Members now and then, while scanning the hall and laughing at the antics of all the wee adorable children's? Well, that's just a coincidence.)

Leah is totally OK with there being confetti in her hair.

She is explaining this new generation of kids to Jo.

"OK, you see that blonde kid on Ravenclaw, who keeps turning around to talk to his friend in Slytherin? That's the new Sokka.

"No, I take that back. He is more Sokka than Sokka. The kid has a scary brain."

"And what's his name?"

Jo leaned out of her chair, to see said child.

"And what does Sokka think of him so far?"

Ravenclaw Table

By luck of positioning of the houses, Niccolo Machiavelli has managed to get himself a seat as near to the physical centre of the Hall as it is possible to be, directly opposite his two best friends. It's also a convenient seat because the aisle between the Hufflepuff and Ravenclas tables, that runs up the middle, is sometimes used by a student of one of the lower years, some of which seem to have urgent things to say to Mac.

Ravenclaw Table: Maura

Maura is sitting near the top of her table, eating a pastie.
The pumpkin ones at the feast are always the very best of the year.


Good enough to be ignoring the tall, studious looking boy sitting on her right at the very least. Even though he was the rumor mill's more recent snogging sighting of hers, neither of them looked to be making the effort to talk to the other much.

Inara is a rather late arrival to the festivities, but it is her first opportunity to be inside the grounds - let alone the castle - since her move back to Hogsmeade.

She's still staring up at the ceiling, a little.

Slytherin Table

Sitting with the Quidditch Team, Melaka Fray has a semi-permnent grin on her face, that may or may not be bad news for anyone who's hoping the feast doesn't end in a food fight. Occasionally she shoots a threatening smirk down the table at Charles Brigman.

She's being social with her peers. This, some teachers might say, isn't going to end well.

Slytherin Table

Leonardo sits with the other sixth years, but interacts with them as little as possible while still maintaining a socially acceptable demeanor. Every now and again he looks over at the Ravenclaw table and makes eye contact with his brother Donatello. From across the aisle that separates the two tables, they hold a silent conversation.

We're going to have to interrupt this silent conversation for a serious announcement.

"Potatoes!"

Or... not.

"Hey," Mel calls up to that group. "Stop hogging the potatoes!"

As long as Brigman goes down first and hard enough Kirika is mostly all right with a food fight.

Still, it is time to relax a little and eat up.

Ye Olde Hufflepuff Table

Mike's place at the Hufflepuff table is dictated not by his year, or the proximity of any new friends he's made in his house, but by where Raphael is seated at the Gryffindor table. Mike always seems to find a spot at the Hufflepuff table just across the aisle from his brother, and usually spends most meal times straddling his seat so as to involve himself in as many conversations as possible.

The Hallowe'en feast appears to be no different.

It's an arrangement that, by this point in the term, leaves Mike sitting where he can have a conversation with Renee. Luckily, the conversation is not quite dominated by Quidditch.

"If Brigman really has been picking on first years, I'm going to break his nose permanently this time."

...sometimes it's about violence.

Mike, it should be noted, is not much bigger than a first year himself.

"Really, we're asking for it."
