Hogwarts; Outside A Good Day for a Fly

The weather is crisp, sunny and with a wonderful wind that tempts flyers to enjoy it. Quidditch season will be starting soon and that means practices, try outs and all the business of making sure that the proper House team wins.

In Will's case that means he's working to pull together a new team and getting them ready as soon as possible. The two Theos have definite possibilities but he wants to put them to the best use possible.

Today he hasn't reserved the field but he's honestly considering it because it seems like you can't fly in Hogwarts without half the school coming to watch or show off.

He'll be in the air, around the stands and trying to make sense of all the flyers, because if other Houses' teams are going to be practicing around him, its not their fault if he learns things.

Sitting in the stands is Alec who's watching all the madness. His team's not out there yet. He wanted a chance to watch the competition before getting his own players in order.

Paper and quill out he's making notes.

It's not cheating.

It's strategics.

At one point when he flies by the stands, Will happens to lose control of a bludger that might scatter Alec's papers,

"Watch your head!"

Yelping, Alec ducks, snatching at his papers, clutching them tightly. Only one or two flutter free. He glares up at the other captain. "Watch your bludger you bat bogey bean brain!"

Will easily hits the bludger back into the midst of the other flyers and gives Alec an innocent smile,

"It got away from me. Working on some homework?"

"A bludger get away from you? The great beater of Gryffindor? Are you getting sick? Maybe you should go to the infirmary," he says, ignoring the question.

His Seeker turns up just a few minutes the late side of on time, but with a smirk on and ready to go.

"Hey, Cap."

Its not a proper practice so he just nods back and tosses a tennis ball her way,

"Ready for the season, Montoya?"

"And raring."

She catches the ball in her offhand, tosses, catches it and chucks it back.

"Figured out a way I can do this on the ground yet?"

Renee Montoya. Only Seeker in the world who doesn't much care for flying.

"No, I haven't,"

He loves flying so finds her attitude strange but she's a good Seeker and adds a spin to the ball when he throws it,

"Seen anyone you wouldn't mind flying beside?"

"Out of this lot?"

Renee looks around, watching the flying. "One or two, maybe. I'll know when we get up there.

"That new American guy show up?"

The two Theos are sitting in the stands at the moment, pointing at all the different flyers. They have their broomsticks, but are eagerly observing at the moment.

Will comes over to them with a slightly serious look,

"We'll be having try outs soon and I hope you're both thinking of going out for the team."

"We are!" the blond Theo says, grinning broadly; and the dark Theo nods with quiet enthusiasm.

"Good, today's a good day for flying so I'll be watching and I might join you as well. Since you'll have to be able to keep up with me."

Lots of things make Julie nervous or scared. Flying is not one of them. In fact, if there is anytime where she feels completely secure and competent, it is when she is flying. Worries, fears and cares just don't seem to matter when she's in the air.

But she is still a first year and not allowed her own broom or to fly unsupervised. This doesn't mean she can't watch more experienced flies for hints on technique though.

Will's been watching the flyers and even up for a while himself and lands near Julie with a smile,

"Hello, see anyone worth being on the Gryffindor team?"

"I don't really know how to play," Julie admits a little shyly but points to the two Theos and Renne. "But I'd say those two boys fly really fast and that lady changes her path brilliantly. The boys are also really good at flying together but I don't know if that would help."

"Its pretty simple. The Chasers try to get a Quaffle through the goal hoops like the Theos are practicing. The Seeker, Renee's the Gryffindor Seeker chases after something called a snitch and then two Beaters, me and someone else use bats and balls called Bludgers to stop scores. It can help to know how to fly together but on the team, they won't be the only Chasers and they have to know how to work with the team."

Kate's kept herself pretty aloof from the melee of fliers but watches with a keen eye. She'd been tempted to try out for Quidditch as it would help her seem normal so thought it'd be a good idea to check out the competition.

As she hovers a stray quaffel comes flying her way, seemingly without her noticing. When the balls about to sail by her though she dips the broom and gives it a kick which sends it back to the startled Slitherin who had gone chasing it.

Will watches her, he's back on the sidelines and yells out,

"Good catch, Kane. You trying out this year?"

She shrugs her shoulders and bobs her head a bit (must maintain cool).

"Maybe. How's the team looking so far?"

"There are some good possibilities,"

There are people from other teams listening so he's not going to say too much.

Kate may - if she was very quiet and even more observant, at some point become aware of a faint buzzing in her vicinity.

More obvious, though, is the sudden appearnace of a fifth year on a broomstick, swooping down from above her, and snatching the snitch out from the air just below Kate's heel.

"Excuse me."

She completely missed the buzzing but her proximity radar is pretty damn good for human sized objects so she doesn't start at Renee's voice. Instead she looks over her shoulder with a smile.

"No problem."

Renee glances up and catches her eye - her arc takes her down but she pulls up and turns around to reach a better height for talking. "Thinking of trying out?"
